STAR ready to face elections

KENINGAU (Sabah Malaysia): The State Reform Party is ready to face the 13th general election, its Sabah Chairman Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan told the 1,000-odd crowd which attended the launch of the STAR’s Keningau Zone here last saturday.

“In fact the supporters of STAR all over the state have been waiting for the time Parliment and the State Legislative Assembly will be dissolved,” he said. “With the rousing support for the party and its group, we are confident of taking over the government. Ini kalilah!”

Among the many topics he raised in his speech was the issue gross inaccuracy of how Malaysia was formed as recorded in the school text books. “There are doing this to purposefully confuse the younger generation. Our students are told that we joined Malaysia, and we all know this is nonsense,” he said. “We together with Singapore, Sarawak and Malaya formed the federation. Without Sabah and Sarawak there would have been no Malaysia. And that is why the position and the future of Sabah in Malaysia is extremely important for the people of Sabah.”

He said it is still not too late for Sabahans to correct this fallacy, but it needs a lot of sacrifice. “We need to unite to achieve this objective, and this can only be done through the open and honest struggle of STAR,” he stressed.

He also emphasized that the next general election will be the final opportunity for the people of Sabah to decide their direction and future. “There won’t be anymore real chance because if we don’t make the right decision this time, we will be done for,” he said. “That’s why the people must be courageous and not be afraid to do the right thing for their own future.”

The launch of Keningau Zone was made more meaningful when the Chairman of DAP Tanjung Aru Kota Kinabalu, Dr. Felix Chong and the Division Chief of PKR Pensiangan, Danny Andipai made the decision to leave their respecdtive parties and join STAR. Jeffrey said that the crossovers were clear indication that STAR is marching strongly foreward to take over the rein of government in the state.

Also present were Deputy Presiden of STAR, Dr. Nicholas Guntobon, the Deputy Protem President of USNO Abdullah Sani, Supreme Council Protem Member of USNO Sofia Leong chau Chu, Supreme Council Membeers of SAPP, and former Pasok Presiden Richard Jayasuriya and many former local leaders of Barisan Nasional who have joined STAR.
